Suicide by Sugar....

How's that for a title?! I was in the doctor's office with my brother today and noticed a book with this title and naturally picked it up to try to see what was so wrong with this wonderful thing that makes so many food and drink dishes so yummy good! Well, it turns out that the American diet has wayyyy too much sugar in it. The sugar we consume causes our white blood cells {the fighter cells} to die much more quickly without doing their job to the best of their ability -- stat. time:

A white blood cell can ingest 16 bacteria, die and become a pus cell. This is a phagocytic index of 16. Within 30 minutes after the ingestion of a teaspoon of sugar, the white blood cell can only ingest 2 bacteria, die and become a pus cell. That is a phagocytic index of 2!!! That means that there is an eight-fold reduction in the phagocytic index.

Personally I think this is just crazy -- that's why when you eat something that is sweet, you tend to get a rush of "energy" or the sugar rush but you will always crash because the body cannot sustain that artificial high!

So, I am trying to cut back on my diet soda intake --- yes folks, diet sodas are just as bad for you as non-diet sodas -- probably worse since the sweetener included in diet drinks is actually a known toxin that was once approved by the FDA to be used in chemical warfare -- I did a major research paper on this when I was in college and yet I still drink the stuff.....it is amazing what Aspartame does to the body and I encourage you to do your own research on the matter if you or someone you love consumes a lot of this artificial sweetener.

Anyway, since I am trying to cut back, I need something to drink instead! I know the obvious selection is water, but, I have never been a big water drinker -- except table water. I have since learned that the carbonation in table water is just as bad for me -- so, I can't win for anything here!! LOL -- Can't have too much tea because of the caffeine OR because of the sugar needed to make it taste good {keep in mind I did spend 14 years in North Carolina! We like our tea sweet!!}. So, I had just about given up on finding anything and was wondering what I could put in my water to make it decent......when I found these babies!!! Can we say hallelujah?!?!

May I introduce you to the Bolthouse Farms beverages. I have tried several, and I have to say that the chocolate Protein Plus drink is sooooo good that there is no way you will even notice you are not drinking chocolate milk -- and get this -- NO ARTIFICIAL anything -- so the sugar that's in it comes from the natural stuff in it -- which is okay to consume in normal quantities! Yea baby!! We have a winner! Check 'em out at your grocery store -- they are so good -- and good for you!

Well, we are busy busy busy over here at BA HQ {that's Bambino Amore Head Quarters}....have a very special order for 35 aprons for a very special client. We will reveal who this special client is later on -- gotta keep ya guessing! :)

We are knee deep in red and Micheal Miller's Aqua/Red Quarter Dots!! The combo is just perfect {if I do say so myself} -- vivid, bright, and cheery.

WOW -- I almost forgot that I just had a birthday {December 28th}!! LOL -- that's funny :) I haven't forgotten all the AWESOME goodies I racked in though.....yep, I have a great family!

The day started out pretty blah.....had a doctor's appointment. Three hours later I was on my way to the book store to peruse the craft section to see if there was anything good that I might want to pick up or get some inspiration from. BUT, it was something along the way to the back of the store that caught my eye -- a HELLO KITTY plush -- what what?! Yepper, grabbed me a beanie baby HK plush like the one pictured below. I know I was in the midst of my 31st {yikes} birthday but I just could not help myself! THANKS MOM!! She also got me a really cool craft book so I can make some new goodies -- already used the pattern to make a bag/tote for a lucky lady. My mom is the bomb :)

So, I used my gift card {sent to me by my Oma -- that's German for grandmother} to purchase a few snazzy t-shirts. One with Smurfette and Brainy Smurf on it that says "Talk Nerdy to Me" as he reads her a book!! Another one that says "Keep Calm and Carry On" -- like those ever-so-popular posters {I have a red one up in my studio -- lol}. A Bob Marley shirt {LOVE Bob Marley}, and finally -- wait for it....wait for it.....a SUPERMAN/GIRL one!! LOL....yep, that's me, Supergirl :) THANKS OMA!

Okay, so I got a necklace from my auntie in LA -- thank you! And a vintage looking coin purse from my grandpa -- thank you! And my father and step-mother sent me a really cool necklace/earring set from a cool designer in AK -- it's made of silver and rocks -- Alaska rocks! LOL...super chic -- thank you!

From my brothers -- Hello Kitty figurine set, heart bracelet, socks {I seriously needed some}, shirts, and a really nice sweater for the chilly weather we are having here in SA.

We had dinner from Chili's :) and mom made the yummiest chocolate cake ever -- chocolate on chocolate -- and I am already missing it now that it's completely gone :(

So, I had a FANTASTIC birthday!

Happy New Year! Wow -- is it really 2011 already?! That's just CRAZY :) Last year went by so very quickly -- especially the last few months. There were so many things that I wanted to try to get finished, but, alas, it was not meant to be!

So, on to 2011 -- it's going to be a fantastic year for all of us, I can feel it.

As you can see, the blog looks a little different -- I just LOVE it. Even though this is the blog home of the Bambino Amore duo {Robbie & Kate}, we are planning on using this space to show you all the "behind-the-scenes" stuff of what goes in to making us tick. So, this year you will be welcomed with open arms in to our home as well as our studio.

I plan on getting together some tutorials for the little things that I come up with for gifts {or just pretty things I make for myself when I have the time} and provide you with links to the sites/blogs that I also use {their tutorials} and read. I am also going to share some of our favorite recipes -- yum yum!

Sounds like a tall order, but, I gots this!

We have been busy busy busy in our studio -- creating new designs and styles for you domestic fashionistas! Two in particular -- the Lola {a half apron with tons of sass} and the Lolita { a full apron for your little fashionistas}....

ALL of the Lola's are very special, one-of-a-kind aprons. Yep, that's right, each one will only be made ONCE....you will find some of the fabrics used again, but, each combination is unique and will NOT be duplicated -- so you can rest assured that you will be the ONLY domestic diva with that particular apron! They are already going quickly in the shop so get em while you can!
